A Big Loss for Voices

Posted:  -  By: Margaret Nimmo Holland

Dear Friends of Voices for Virginia’s Children,

It is with a heavy heart that I share sad news with you on behalf of the board and staff. Last week, our Kids Count Director Ted Groves lost his battle with cancer. Ted worked at Voices for four years after a dedicated career at the Chesterfield Community Services Board, and he was devoted to our mission of improving the lives of Virginia’s children. For those of you who had the opportunity to work with Ted, you know his expertise with our vast Kids Count Data Center and his desire to help others understand the needs of children. He was instrumental in our efforts to examine racial and ethnic disparities in child well-being, work that we will continue.

One of Ted’s favorite sayings was the traditional Masai warrior greeting: “And how are the children?” The Masai use it because they believe the well-being of their children indicates the well-being of their culture. Here at Voices for Virginia’s Children, we could not agree more. Saddened by the loss of our colleague, we will continue to work for the well-being of all children in the Commonwealth.

Sincerely,

Margaret Nimmo Crowe

Executive Director
